Butterfly Drawings in Pencil with Step by Step:
1. Regular Butterfly Drawing in Pencil
A butterfly design like this is something you would normally find anywhere. this kind of butterfly is also very easy to draw. so let us learn to draw this picture in some simple way.
- Find the centre of the page. for this, use a pencil lightly and make two vertical and horizontal lines.
- Draw the body of butterfly which look like a Silhouette type structure including head, stomach and tail.
- Now the most important task is to draw a picture of the wings of a butterfly. because both wings of a butterfly are the same. for this, mark a reference line at some equal distance. draw the shape of the ‘W’ in the English alphabet.
- Draw the top part of the butterfly wing like the shape of an ear. the shape of the reference line that we first drew looks like something like a triangle. using same triangle, draw the upper wing of the butterfly.
- Using same method, draw the lower wing of the butterfly.
- Now erase all reference line and make final drawing clear to visible.
2. Round Butterfly Drawing in Pencil
The round shaped butterfly is very beautiful to look. this kind if butterfly drawing is very attractive to children. due to its puffy shape, it looks huge. to replicate a butterfly like this you first need a reference line. see how the reference line is drawn in the figure below.
- after drawing the reference line, draw the centre of the butterfly. the butterfly centre is very easy to draw, just use a pencil and draw as shown below.
- Now to draw the upper wings of the butterfly first make a tall and puffy shape. you can draw a square to fit this puffy shape perfectly and call it a reference square. use that square to shape and draw the top two wings of the butterfly.
- Also duplicate some square to draw the underside of the butterfly’s wing. draw the small wings using the lower square.
3. Free Style Butterfly Drawing in Pencil
In this type of butterfly, their wing shape is similar to flower shape or leaf shape. some of the first steps given above will be similar. first draw the body part of the butterfly.
- then draw the upper wings of the butterfly as a leaf shape. remember to use a freehand technique when you draw a pattern like this. if you can’t do that, use French curve.
- Now give the lower wings of the butterfly the shape of leaves or flower petals as you like. this type of shape is very easy to draw but you need to practice.

- The shape of the wings of these butterflies is slightly bent back than its body. so take some reference lines so you just start drawing his shape back from his body.
- Keeping in mind the size of almonds, draw the upper part of the butterfly’s wings in the same shape. draw the shape of the lower wings of the butterflies given above in the same way for this butterfly as well.
5. Side Butterfly Drawing in Pencil
A butterfly seen from the side is very easy to see but if you go to describe it I picture it becomes a bit difficult. Split the line sheet down the middle, starting slightly from the corner. and draw a picture of butterfly body above that horizontal line.
- Now draw any half side of the butterfly. when you draw a half side, it’s slightly tilted to some angle. remember you also have to draw the other side of the butterfly which looks slightly from side view.
- When presenting the butterfly side view, draw the hidden side so that you can see it at least a little.
6. Dragon Style Butterfly Drawing in Pencil
These types of butterflies have very large upper wings. it looks a bit like a dragon butterfly. it’s is so tall that is it’s wings are twice as long as its body.
- Draw the shape of the upper wing of this butterfly slightly longer. when you get the outline of the butterfly body, draw it in a slightly tapered shape. shape the outer side of the wings like a bird’s wing.
- In the same way, keep the lower part of the wings slightly shorter and elliptical.
7. Elliptical Shape Butterfly Drawing in Pencil
- draw four elliptical shape which slightly touch with body of the butterfly drawing. this is easy and geometrical sketch technique.
8. Kite Shape Butterfly Drawing in Pencil
- Draw a kite-shaped outline for the body. It’s like drawing a diamond or a kite on its side.
- From the top corners of the kite shape, draw two larger wings curving outward. They can be slightly curved or have a wavy pattern.
- Below the top wings, draw two smaller wings following the same curvature. These can be smaller and similar in shape to the top wings but placed a bit lower.
