Step 1: Creating Geometrical Base.
My every butterfly drawing sketches, I always create geometrical construction for symmetrical view as well as easy to draw a figure. while you creating Cute Butterfly Drawing for Kids it’s very simple to understand. use measuring glass scale to draw base construction.
- Intersect the two line from edge of the corner page at 45 degree. you will get centre point of notebook
- Draw thin chain line which passing from centre point and creating 90 degree angle.
- Name the thin chain line as A, A’ and B, B’ and divide A and intersecting line name it as P and P’ as shown in figure.
- the line P and P’ represent butterfly sketch is tilted clockwise.
- Draw rectangle 16.5 cm x 12.5 cm in size. use intersecting line as reference to draw rectangle.
Step 2: Draw Butterfly Body
I draw butterfly tilted with clockwise direction so the head position of butterfly slightly toward right side.
- divide P,P’ line from centre point and name it point ‘x’
- use X point as centre and draw circle.
- Use centre of page and draw thorax in elliptical shape. tilt it at 45 degree.
- Draw little bigger shape of Abdomen exactly down side of thorax.
Step 3: Draw Cute Butterfly Wings Shape
Butterfly have 4 wings up side wings size is bigger than down side wings. lets draw it with step by step.
- Mark footprint point of wings on rectangle line and chain thin line
- to understand footprint mark you have imagine your butterfly outline or use reference.
- Start connecting marked point and create straight line path of wings
- make sure your reference point always keep inside the main border.

- Now turn straight line path into curve wing
- use free hand technique to draw Butterfly wings.
- Free moving line of wings may be have different shape according to your like & keep shape of butterfly drawing elliptical.
- Now erase all reference line and correct the wings border.
Step 4: Create Wings Design
On Butterfly wings they have different pattern which directly increase the beauty of wings. lets create simple circular pattern on wings.
- draw to circle one is small and another big around the small circle.
- draw peacock feather shape around circular pattern and connect tail with thorax and abdomen.
Step 5: Fill the Border with Black Pen
Pencil sketch not have sharpness on borders and its make little tricky to colouring. to avoid this problem we will start to filling border by using 0.5 mm pointer pen.
- Use 0.5 mm pointer pen and overlap on pencil border.
- Use eraser to erase pencil border after overlapping black pointer pen marking.
Step 6: Colours
Here we are creating Cute Butterfly Drawing for Kids so pop ups colour looks great on butterfly. we are using few colour combination for example- Pink, Red, Yellow, Violet and Black.
- fill the Yellow colour in head, thorax and abdomen. avoid inserting in eyes. for eyeball use black colour
- Simple keep yellow pencil in hand and uptown on paper by applying same pressure.
Shading Technique:
for shading we are using following colour combination
- Orange + Yellow
- Red + Orange + Yellow
- Pink + Red
- Violet + Blue
- start shading head with orange colour pencil. fill border side corner. make corner area more dark then central area.
- use orange colour pencils and make three line pattern on abdomen.
- pick baby shade pink colour for wing design pattern and speed it evenly.
- create baby pink shade simply apply low pressure on paper while using pink shade pencil.
- similarly use purple for for down side wing and spread it evenly
- don’t make confused because light pink colour and purple looks like same but both are different.
- Apply more pressure on pencil and create dark pink colour which is perfect for plane area of wings.
- Similarly for purple colour use above technique.
Now it’s time to creating dark red colour shade on wing. for creating 3d effect use red colour pencils on pink colour wings are and start filling from butterfly body part area and make lighter toward the wings design area. similarly go for purple colour.
Step 7: Final Touch
hey kids you almost complete your butterfly drawing. in final touch you have fill the dot pattern because its enhance butterfly beauty. use dark pink colour marker to fill the dot pattern.
create extra dot on upper side of wings make it in different size and shape with random position. use same method for purple colour and create for down side wing
